European youth policy in German practice – Implementing the EU Youth Strategy at the local level
Implementation of the EU Youth Strategy in Germany has hitherto taken place primarily at the federal and state (Länder)level. In light of this, it is worth considering how the European dimensions that result from the EU Youth Strategy are being reflected in Germany's youth policy, and how the Youth Strategy is actually being put into practice below the federal and Länderlevels.
Researchers from the German Youth Institute have been observing the implementation of the EU Youth Strategy from the very beginning, one of the outcomes of which is a typology of real-life implementation examples. This workshop will use this typology to demonstrate the many ways in which European impulses are reflected in German youth work activities. It will also be discussed how other EU Member States have implemented these structures at the local level and what experiences they have made.
The workshop aims to present the typology to a broader audience and discuss it with them. Participants are familiarised with the many different approaches to implementation that exist in Germany, which have been made all the richer thanks to the experiences made by other EU countries.
